The team was welcoming and warm, and their knowledge and advice was helpful for me as someone getting started in the film & TV industry in picture editing. The shadow shifts where I learned the workflow at Coma Edits allowed me to understand not only the inner workings of an editing house, but how to be a better assistant editor. I was also included in deciding the focus of each session, so I felt that what I specifically could gain from the mentorship was a priority of the team. \"\"The biggest benefit of my mentorship with Taylor and her staff at Coma Edits was that it felt like a lifeline when I needed it the most. I have been struggling to find my footing in the assisting space since graduating from Sheridan and joining the DGC through the GAP program two-and-a-half years ago. Since the post-world shifted to remote work I have found it nearly impossible to get in-person live mentorship. Taylor\u2019s unique practice of doing live in-person mentoring sets her apart from the rest. The opportunity to mentor in person has all but disappeared today. Yet with Coma Edits and Taylor\u2019s generous support it is a reality. I am grateful to the CCE for this opportunity. It has made me feel a part of the larger editing community in Toronto, more so than any other program or workshop. As an emerging filmmaker in need of guidance, I found the mentorship sessions to be invaluable. Taylor G McConnachie, the Senior Editor and Co-Owner of Coma Edits, is a passionate editor and mentor. She answered all my questions about technical aspects of editing workflow in detail and with clarity.
