The CCE Awards are a jury-based process. There is one jury per category, made up of volunteer CCE Members. Jurors are vetted based upon their professional credits/years of experience, and we endeavour to balance juries with editors of varying experience levels. All juries are anonymous.
Each juror is provided with a Jury Kit that includes the overall guidelines for judging, a rubric specific to their category, and a video to review about the logistics of the jury process. Rubrics ask the jury to consider things like editorial storytelling (logic, emotion, structure, resolution), rhythm & pacing, and standout scenes/sequences. In addition to watching and scoring the entries, the juries undertake several discussions to help solidify their choices. The CCE periodically makes adjustments to the guidelines, rubrics, and overall jury process based upon juror feedback.
At the start of the jury period, each jury group meets with their experienced jury head who outlines the process and answers any preliminary questions. Jurors then watch and score the entries in their own time, and meet back as a group to discuss. Their scores narrow down the field to the nominations, and then determine which entry takes the award by secret ballot.

The submission window usually opens in early December and closes in the first week of January. We encourage you to to submit as early as possible to assist the Awards team with processing all the submissions. This year, submissions open December 1st, 2025 and close January 9th, 2026.
Due to the high volume of submissions, unfortunately if you have missed the deadline you are unable to submit.
The nominees are usually announced in April. This year, the nominees will be announced on April 13th, 2026.
The Awards usually take place in late spring (end of May or early June) in Toronto. This year, the awards will take place on May 22nd, 2026 at the Delta Hotel in Toronto.
Everyone is welcome to attend! CCE Members receive a special discounted ticket price.

We have 2 ticket options: CCE Member and Non Member. CCE Member tickets are cheaper than Non Member tickets as a membership perk! We also try to offer a further discount to CCE Members who are nominated (if your work is nominated, Alison will provide a discount code to redeem this extra discount).
The CCE is always looking for ways to make it easier for out-of-town members and guests to attend the awards ceremony. We offer a small travel bursary for nominated members, which can be accessed by emailing Alison. Note that this bursary is first-come, first-served, and the amounts available will vary year to year. We are also piloting a hosting program that pairs visiting members with local Torontonians to help with overnight stays. Please visit the hosting program web page for more information.
